The strategic Srinagar -Leh highway was re-opened for vehicular traffic on Friday after remaining closed for two days due to snowfall, officials said.
Around one foot snow had accumulated on the Zojila pass, following which the road was closed as a precautionary measure, said an official.
He said traffic was allowed to move on the 434 kilometre road with the improvement in weather.
Several light vehicles and trucks were allowed towards Srinagar in the morning, said the official.
Vehicles would be allowed to move towards Kargil later in the day, he added.
