A high-level screening committee has cleared three IPS officers for their promotion as inspectors general of police (IGPs).
A source told? that the screening committee headed by the chief secretary has recommended the promotion of deputy inspector general (DIG) of police south Kashmir range SP Pani, DIG central Kashmir range Ghulam Hassan Bhat and DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range Basanth Kumar Rath as IGPs. The recommendation for their promotion would now go to the cabinet for approval. It is likely yo be cleared in the next cabinet meeting.
The screening committee also comprises principal secretary home Raj Kumar Goyal and director general of police SP Vaid.
Pani has served as SSP Kulgam and SSP Kathua before proceeding on central deputation.
Bhat, who is attaining superannuation next month, served on key positions including DIG north Kashmir range, SSP Anantnag, SSP Security and SSP CID. Basnath Rath has served as SSP Jammu.
With their promotion, the number of IGPs in the J&K cadre would go up to 26. Of them, nine are presently on central deputation with different paramilitary forces and investigating agencies like NIA and CBI.
