In a speech which could be best described as part of deft diplomacy, Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj reprimanded Pakistani leadership for having failed to take the country to the heights where India is today.
She hit out at Pakistan for creating terror groups like LeT, JeM, Hizbul Mujahideen and the Haqqani Network. Her oratory skills were on full display as she ripped Pakistan apart for waging a war against India and said that a country which is world’s greatest exporter of havoc, death and inhumanity became a champion of hypocrisy by preaching humanity.
She asked the Pakistani leaders to introspect as to why their country is infamous as the “pre- eminent export factory for terror”. In her address to 72nd UN General Assembly session, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke on issues like terrorism, climate change, maritime and cyber security, UN Security Council reforms, poverty and unemployment. She was at her epic best when she said that the wisest thing Pakistan’s politicians could do is to look within.
She went on and said that India and Pakistan became free within hours of each other. Why is it that today India is a recognised IT superpower in the world, and Pakistan is recognised only as the pre-eminent export factory for terror? India had ripped into Pakistan on Friday describing it as “terroristan” and land of “pure terror” that produces and export global terrorism. Swaraj said India has risen despite being the principal destination of Pakistan’s nefarious export of terrorism.
She asked Pakistan to ponder over the fact that while India established scientific and technical institutions which are the pride of the world, Pakistan offered nothing to the world and indeed to its own people apart from terrorism? She said that India produced scientists, scholars, doctors and engineers while Pakistan created terrorist camps, created Lashkar-e- Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujahideen and Haqqani network. The External Affairs Minister rightly reminded Pakistan about the need to stem terror and take the route towards progress.
She even reminded the Pakistani leadership that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi had from the moment he took his oath of office, offered the hand of peace and friendship. Pakistan’s Prime Minister must answer why his nation spurned this offer. Prime Minister Abbasi recalled old resolutions that have been long overtaken by events. But his memory conveniently failed him where it matters. He has forgotten that under the Shimla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration India and Pakistan resolved that they would settle all outstanding issues bilaterally.
Sushma was right when she said that Pakistan’s politicians remember everything, manipulate memory into a convenience. They are masters at forgetting facts that destroy their version. The content of the speech was enough to counter everything that the Pakistani Prime Minister had said about Indian in general and Kashmir in particular. Sushma reminded Pakistan to stop talking about humanity when it is the greatest exporter of terror across the globe.
She rightly reminded Pakistan that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had offered the hand of peace and friendship since he assumed office but the offer was spurned. Swaraj reminded Pakistan that on December 9, 2015, when she was in Islamabad for the Heart of Asia conference, a decision was made by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that dialogue between India and Pakistan should be renewed and named it a comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue.
Sushma has given Pakistan enough indications of what India wants and how the peace process should move forward but it seems the rogue nation does not want to move ahead. The ideology of hatred, ill-will and destruction describes Pakistan the best. The nation has failed to move beyond this policy. Its institutions have failed to live upto the expectations of its own people. From Supreme Court to the Army, every institution in Pakistan is on a self-destruction mode. Commoners have virtually no say in the decision making processes.
Political executive is subservient to the interests of the military generals. And the military generals have just one aim and that is tom bleed India hundred cuts. From the UN, India has sent a clear message to Pakistan to stop aiding and abetting terror, to give up the policy to bleed Indian hundred cuts, to take the road towards prosperity, to prioritise development and progress over terrorism and above all, to recognise the fact that nuclear blackmail won’t work anymore.
The earlier, Pakistan realises this, the better it would be for this nation and its people. If the nation fails to read the message, Pakistan would be in deep trouble. India has had enough and people are in mood to tolerate. The country can no more tolerate terror.
