Entire opposition members of National Conference and Congress on Wednesday staged walkout of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly over civilian killings and lathi-charge on NHM employees.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, opposition members stood and raised the issue of Tuesday’s civilian killing in Kashmir. Shouting anti-government slogans, the members entered into the well of the House. Some of the members were carrying black banners that read “stop civilian killings.” Asserting that civilians are being killed in Kashmir and employees are being lathi-charged in Jammu, the opposition created ruckus.
NC MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar said that the government claimed of normalising situation in Kashmir but it has further worsened. Shouting ‘shame shame’, the members created uproar in the House and sought reply from the government. Though Speaker Kavinder Gupta said that the government will reply after Question Hour, the opposition members staged walkout from the House.
MLA Langate Engineer Rashid was also marshalled out of the House for disrupting normal business.
The members, after around 30 minutes, returned to the House and sought reply from the Government.
They staged protest in the well of the House amid slogans. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs A R Veeri said that the civilian killed in security forces firing was innocent and the matter will be probed.
Not satisfied with the reply, Leader of Opposition in the House Omar Abdullah said, “We are not satisfied with the reply. We read in media that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was pained with civilian killing.”
“It would have been better if she would have attended the House and uttered few words over incident rather than issuing statements in the media,” he added. Abdullah further said that she will speak in the House on Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s address but she should not expect us to be there to listen to her speech. At least I will not be attending House during her speech,” he said.
