Hours after alliance leader Lalu Prasad Yadav’s warning and statement of “I made Nitish the Chief Minister”, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday, met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and resigned from his post. The Governor, who was to visit Kolkata, canceled his trip after he got a call from the Chief Minister.

Nitish Kumar reportedly told his ministers, “Samay aa gaya hain, humhe karna hain’ (The time has come, we have to do this).”

Here’s a glimpse of RJD- JD(U) of the troubled relationship

Yadavs in trouble

Early July, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered a case against 69-year-old Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav and Sarla Gupta, wife of Prem Chand Gupta, former union minister. The case was registered for criminal conspiracy (120-B), cheating (420) under IPC and corruption.

Tejashwi had been named by the CBI as an accused in its probe into the land-for-hotels scam case.

Nitish ‘calls up’ Lalu

The RJD stood firmly behind beleaguered Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and dismissed the BJP’s demand for his resignation after he was made an accused in a land-for-hotel case being probed by the CBI. The demand by the BJP and its partners was rejected by the RJD after a Legislature Party meeting and was attended by party chief Lalu Prasad.

EXL | Nitish to sack Tejashwi: Sources

Sources said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was all set to sack Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. As per sources, the CM had made up his decision. While earlier it was reported that CM Nitish Kumar would break the alliance, sources confirmed that Tejashwi Yadav would resign. They also added that if Tejaswi Yadav doesn’t resign, then Nitish would step down.

Zero tolerance on corruption

Sources said that Nitish Kumar had outrightly rejected Tejashwi’s explanation and had ordered the deputy Chief Minister to ‘explain to the people of Bihar who have voted them to power.’ Sources added that in the party meeting there was a clear consensus on not tolerating any corruption issues.

Forgive Tejashwi, Rahul tells Nitish

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is believed to have told Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to forgive the corruption charges against Deputy CM and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav to ‘protect the Mahagathbandhan’. However, sources said that the Chief Minister told the Congress leader that there would be ‘no compromise’ and that the allegations against the Deputy Chief Minister were unacceptable.

He is believed to have said he cannot have a tainted individual as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State and it was against his ‘way of politics’.

Lalu Warns: I made Nitish the CM

‘Mahagathbandhan intact’ said RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in a press briefing in Bihar. Mr. Yadav also added that ‘there was no question of Tejashwi resigning as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State. He said the JD(U) is ‘not police’ to seek any clarification, adding that “there was no bitterness between me and Nitish. I keep talking to him now and then. The media is trying to create a crack in our alliance.”

The former Union Railway Minister also clarified that the Chief Minister had not sought the resignation of the Deputy Chief Minister and that “Tejashwi Yadav will not resign.” The RJD leader, in a statement to emphasise his influence on the alliance,  said, “I made Nitish the CM.”

Lalu blackmails, son brazen

Merely few moments after  RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav addressed a press briefing, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav cried ‘political vendetta.’ Tejashwi went on to add that nobody had asked for his resignation and these were ‘falseless and baseless’ allegations against him.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar quits

Nitish Kumar reportedly told his ministers, “‘Samay aa gaya hain, humhe karna hain’ (The time has come, we have to do this).”

Sources say the BJP Parliamentary Board will meet to take a call on whether to support the JD(U) from outside or not.
